The Countess of Scarbrough, Henrietta Lumley, President of SSAFA South Yorkshire Branch, has been recognised for 15 years of dedicated service supporting the Armed Forces community at the branches recent Annual General Meeting.

The Countess of Scarbrough received a James Gildea Award in recognition of her continued commitment to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, and her support for volunteers delivering practical and emotional assistance to serving personnel, veterans and their families across South Yorkshire.

Also recognised at the AGM was former Duke of Wellington’s Regiment soldier Andrew Fowler, who received a James Gildea five-year Long Service Award for his contribution as a volunteer helper, supporting SSAFA’s work with beneficiaries across the region. Married with one child, Andrew continues to play an active role assisting the branch’s work in the local community.

Speaking after the presentations, The Countess of Scarbrough said: “SSAFA’s volunteers make an extraordinary difference to the lives of serving personnel, veterans and their families. It is a privilege to be part of an organisation built on such commitment and compassion.”

Andrew Fowler said: “It’s an honour to receive this award. Volunteering with SSAFA has been very rewarding. I’ve always felt strongly about supporting the Armed Forces community, and being able to do that in a practical way through the branch means a lot. I’m grateful to receive this recognition.”
