SSAFA volunteers raise £400 at Living History Weekend at Eden Camp Modern History Museum
14 April 2026
Volunteers from SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity’s North Yorkshire branch raised around £400 for local branch funds during the popular Living History Week event at Eden Camp Modern History Museum over the Easter weekend.
The museum, based on a former prisoner-of-war camp near Malton and now a major Second World War and military history attraction, welcomed large numbers of visitors between 30 March and 12 April 2026, with SSAFA volunteers hosting their stall across the Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend.
As well as raising funds to support the local Armed Forces community, the team spoke with many veterans, serving personnel, families and members of the public about the wide range of support available through SSAFA.
Bob Walton, SSAFA North Yorkshire Branch Treasurer and Community Engagement Lead, said:
“The weather was much better than expected and the visitors were an amazing bunch.
As well as raising funds for our branch, we had some fantastic conversations and were able to raise a huge amount of awareness about SSAFA and the support we provide to the Armed Forces community.”
Eden Camp’s strong links with military history and its popularity with veterans and Armed Forces families made the event an ideal opportunity for volunteers to connect with people who may benefit from SSAFA’s services now or in the future.
SSAFA supports serving personnel, veterans and their families at every stage of life, providing practical assistance, financial support, and access to specialist help through a network of trained volunteers and professional staff across the UK.
Funds raised locally help SSAFA North Yorkshire branch continue its work supporting members of the Armed Forces community across the county.
