SSAFA Supporter and Actress Prunella Scales passes away

29 October 2025

All at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity are saddened to learn of the death of Prunella Scales. As well as her decades-long acting career, notably in Fawlty Towers, she was also a supporter of SSAFA.

Her support included launching an anthology of poetry - Great Ward Poets - by the men and women of one of London's WW1 hospitals, the Royal Victoria Patriotic Building in Wandsworth, known as No. 3 Hospital, in aid of SSAFA.

Prunella, whose husband the actor Timothy West died in 2024, also attended a SSAFA Big Brew Up with HRH Prince Michael of Kent - SSAFA's President - and Harry Secombe at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in support of the charity.

We send our condolences to her son Samuel West and the rest of her family.
