A Capital Effort: 13 Bridges Challenge fundraisers step up in scorching London heat
30 June 2025
More than 1,000 supporters laced up their walking shoes this weekend to take on SSAFA’s annual 13 Bridges Challenge - raising vital funds for the Armed Forces community and turning the streets of London into a sea of SSAFA colours.
In glorious sunshine and soaring summer temperatures with the occasional cloud break, walkers set off from Trinity Square Gardens bright and early on Saturday morning, ready to tackle a 10-mile route that crossed 13 of London’s most iconic bridges. From Tower Bridge to Chelsea, participants were treated to stunning views of the capital as they made their way along the Thames.
This year’s event wasn’t just about putting one foot in front of the other - it was a celebration of community spirit, resilience, and unwavering support for our Armed Forces. From military families and veterans to serving personnel, corporate teams, and loyal SSAFA supporters, the challenge brought people together for a cause close to many hearts.
GB News joined the action too, broadcasting live from the event and sharing the incredible atmosphere with viewers across the country as walkers made their way across the capital’s historic bridges.
The heat didn’t deter the determined fundraisers, with volunteers, cadets and Reservists lining the route to cheer them on, hand out water, and keep spirits high. After crossing their final bridge, walkers arrived at Eel Brook Common in Fulham, where they were greeted with a vibrant celebration of music, refreshments, SSAFA merchandise, and a well-earned rest in the sunshine.
Verity Harding, SSAFA’s Head of Events, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s 13 Bridges Challenge - from our incredible walkers to the volunteers and supporters who made the day so special. The atmosphere across London has been fantastic and the funds raised will make a real difference to those in our Armed Forces community who turn to SSAFA for support.”
So far, this year’s event has raised an incredible £144,664, with donations still rolling in. Every penny will go towards helping our charity, SSAFA, continue its work providing practical, emotional, and financial assistance to serving personnel, veterans, and their families so they never have to battle alone.
