North Yorkshire soldiers complete Leeds Marathon for SSAFA
15 May 2026
After already completing two demanding triathlon events, Lance Corporal Kyle Flaherty, 26, from Keighley and Private Harry Wilcock, 19, from Leeds, are now preparing for the next stage of their gruelling four-event fundraising challenge in support of SSAFA.
The pair both serve with 6 Regiment Royal Logistic Corps at Dishforth.
The Leeds Marathon marks the second stage of the pair’s ambitious four-event fundraising challenge. The first was the Ribby Hall Triathlon in Preston, and the third is the Tsunami Ocean Trails 36-mile ultramarathon they will take on in June.
This will lead up to their ultimate challenge and goal – the massive Leeds Iron Man Triathlon on the 16th August.
Across the four races, Kyle and Harry will complete more than 217 miles of swimming, cycling and running in support of SSAFA. The combination of disciplines makes the challenge far tougher than covering the same distance on foot alone, with swimming widely regarded as one of the most physically demanding endurance sports.
Kyle, who has served in the Army for five years, said: “The marathon is a huge mental challenge as much as a physical one. We’ve already pushed ourselves hard over the past few weeks, but we’re determined to keep going and raise as much money as possible for SSAFA.”
Harry, who began his Army career at just 16, added: “SSAFA supports serving personnel, veterans and families when they need it most. We’re proud to support a charity that does so much for the Armed Forces community.”
Kyle and Harry have raised nearly £500 so far and are hoping to raise at least £1,500 for SSAFA through their fundraising campaign.
SSAFA provides practical, emotional and financial support to serving personnel, veterans and their families across Yorkshire and the UK.
