What does SSAFA do?

30 September 2019

When we work with veterans and service personnel, and their families, they are often surprised at how much the charity can actually do for them - the difference it can make and the changes that can be achieved.

SSAFA is the Armed Forces charity, formerly known as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, and is a UK-wide charity that provides lifelong support to serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families or dependents.

Our Shropshire branch provides support for those veterans, service personnel and their families in our local community.

Caseworkers can provide experienced, non-judgmental and friendly advice, as well as practical services which cover a wide range of social, family and financial issues.

It is our aim to let members of the Armed Forces, both Regular and Reserves, veterans and their families, know they can depend on SSAFA for support now and for the rest of their lives.

Nationally figures show that in 2017 SSAFA helped 73,227 people in the Armed Forces community, supporting 551 people through the Prison-In-Reach and Veterans in the Criminal Justice System programmes and the Mentoring Programme supported 121 wounded, injured and sick service leavers.

Locally we have supported the daughter of a veteran who was facing losing her home, fought for funding to provide an injured veteran with a house extension and the mobility support he needed and much more.

If you are in service, or a veteran, and you are in need then please do get in touch with us.
