Breakfast Clubs for veterans

25 September 2019

An environment where veterans can come together in a relaxed social setting can be an extremely important part of post-service life.

Our volunteers work with dozens of veterans, many who live alone and are always grateful for the chance to chat with others who can understand their experiences and reminisce.

It is one of the reasons why we are so pleased to have Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Clubs in the county.

The Shrewsbury Armed Forces and Veterans’ Breakfast Club is a busy group with members ranging from 18 to 97-years-old so there is always someone interesting to chat with...and all are welcome, including families.
The club was launched in March 2016 and is independent of any other organisation.

The Ludlow Armed Forces and Veterans’ Breakfast Club launched in July and will be holding regular gatherings in the town.

We at the SSAFA Shropshire branch fully support the events and love what it provides for our veterans and Armed Forces members.

The event aims to provide a really relaxed and informal atmosphere and is for all areas of Her Majesty’s Forces, welcoming members of foreign armed forces to join in too.

There are no fees to pay and the club simply exists to help veterans and serving personnel to meet face-to-face...with a tasty breakfast as an added bonus, of course.

Andrew Meek, SSAFA branch chairman, said: “It’s a fantastic opportunity for veterans and Armed Forces members to come together.

“There is no dress code and people can just enjoy each other’s company.

“We let as many people know about the event as we can through SSAFA because we know that there are many veterans out there who would really benefit from the experience.

“People can make new friends and see them regularly at each breakfast meeting.”
