Short breaks and holidays for service families

SSAFA is excited to offer a new short breaks pilot programme which provides a weekend family break for military families only at the Calvert Trust Exmoor.

These breaks are an opportunity for families to spend some quality time together, try new activities and enjoy challenging themselves and each other. The cost of attending this three-night family break is £150 per person.

If families find this cost prohibitive, we strongly encourage them to get in touch with Frances Robinson, Additional Needs and Disability Advisor, in order to seek the support of SSAFA’s Service Committees and Branches, who may help local military families with the funding element.

Upcoming Short Breaks:

EXMOOR FAMILY BREAK 16 – 19 November 2018 – Calvert Trust Exmoor

This is a short break particularly for Armed Forces families with children (aged 3-18 years) with an additional need or disability in their family. Siblings are welcome also. There must be at least one parent attending alongside their children.

The break takes place at Exmoor Calvert Trust in a beautiful setting overlooking a reservoir in Devon. Daily activities include:

  • Horse riding
  • Kayaking
  • Biking
  • Sailing
  • Archery
  • Abseiling
  • Bush craft
  • Low ropes

Families sleep in their own rooms on site; we will make sure that families are in rooms next to one another if we cannot fit the whole family in one room.

Three hot meals a day are provided.

The application process will open in August. Please get in touch with Frances Robinson, Additional Needs and Disability Advisor on ANDA@ssafa.org.uk or 0207 463 9315, for further information and how to apply.
