SSAFA volunteers and Junior Soldiers join forces at AFC Harrogate
13 August 2026
SSAFA volunteers Beverley Robb, Shirley Wilson and Bob Walton were joined by four Junior Soldiers to raise funds and awareness for the Armed Forces charity at the Army Foundation College Harrogate Passing Out Parade.
Beverley and Bob represented SSAFA North Yorkshire and Shirley represented SSAFA Durham at the event on 6 August, hosting the charity’s stand and speaking to families and visitors about the practical, emotional and financial support available to the Armed Forces community.
They were supported by Junior Soldiers Riley Pybourne, Joe Bratton, Harry McGettrick and Tyler Hayden, who are halfway through their own training at AFC Harrogate.
The four volunteered their time to support Beverley, Shirley and Bob and circulated among the crowds to raise awareness of the charity and engage with visitors. They also helped raise an impressive £200 for SSAFA.
The Graduation Parade marked a major milestone for 900 Junior Soldiers completing their initial training before progressing to the next stage of their Army careers.
SSAFA would like to thank Beverley, Shirley and Bob for their continued dedication and for representing the charity so brilliantly, as well as Riley, Joe, Harry and Tyler for giving their time and providing such enthusiastic support on the day.
