Un-fore-gettable chance to play top course as SSAFA tee-ams up with Royal Dornoch

29 January 2026

It’s recognised as one of the top links courses in the world and regularly voted one of the best in Scotland. Now, for one day only, golfers can play Royal Dornoch for 30% less – all while raising funds to support Scotland’s Armed Forces community.

Royal Dornoch’s 18-hole course is known to even many of the keenest golfers by reputation only. It’s located in Scotland’s Northern Highlands with views over the unspoilt Dornoch Firth.

Its remoteness means it retains an exclusivity that few courses can rival; let alone one with a 150-year history and a course extended by ‘founding father of golf’ Old Tom Morris himself.

Now golfers are being urged to make the pilgrimage north, following in the footsteps of golf greats like Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus, to play Royal Dornoch’s bucket list links in aid of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Taking place on Friday 10 April 2026, participants at SSAFA’s Royal Dornoch Golf Day will enjoy a full day of golf on the Championship Course with live scoring straight to their phones from award-winning Scottish business Golf Sherpa. Registration will also include hospitality and networking in the venue’s new £13.9million clubhouse.

SSAFA exists to make sure that members of the Armed Forces community never battle alone. The charity’s trained staff and volunteers provide often life-changing support for serving personnel, veterans, and their families in their time of need.

SSAFA CEO, Air Marshal Steve Shell OBE, said: “As a keen golfer myself I am well aware of Royal Dornoch’s impressive reputation, so I am immensely proud to see SSAFA partner with Royal Dornoch for this event.

“Playing such an extraordinary course is an unmissable opportunity for any golfer – made extra special by raising funds to recognise and support our Armed Forces community.

“It’s the continued backing and generosity of our supporters old and new that enables SSAFA to be there for the brave men and women we help, recognising their unique needs and making sure their service is never forgotten.”

Neil Hampton, General Manager, Royal Dornoch, said: “At Royal Dornoch our strong links with SSAFA in the local Sutherland community are a source of pride, and we are delighted to host SSAFA’s Royal Dornoch Golf Day at our Championship Course and new clubhouse.

“We look forward to welcoming new golfing visitors to our beautiful part of the world and making their Royal Dornoch experience unforgettable – all while supporting the Armed Forces community in Scotland.”
