Sherin’s ‘isolation art’ raises £27,000 for SSAFA
01 July 2026
Sherin Aminossehe’s talent, generosity, and commitment to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity has helped raise more than £27,000 through a remarkable body of artwork that has captured the imagination of many.
Her distinctive sketches and drawings have been transformed into Christmas cards, a calendar, homewares, and a book – The Road Untravelled – creating a lasting fundraising legacy for the charity. And the total raised is even more noteworthy as Sherin’s target in 2020 was £2,000.
Speaking in June 2020, Sherin – now the Ministry of Defence's first Director of Infrastructure – said: “It was my mother who taught me to draw, showed me all the techniques I know, encouraged me to use different materials, and encouraged me to do art.
“I am therefore doing a drawing a day, a sponsored draw if you like, of all the favourite places we want to go to but are unable to do so while we are in lockdown, travelling the world with my pen, one sketch at a time.”
What began as a personal creative pursuit – termed “isolation art” – during COVID lockdowns has grown into a meaningful contribution to SSAFA’s work supporting serving personnel and veterans, and their families. Sherin’s illustrations, admired for their warmth, detail and sense of place, have been used across a range of products that not only celebrate her artistic skill, but also help generate critical income for the charity.
From Christmas cards to a beautifully produced calendar and book, her work has connected with people looking for thoughtful, high-quality items that also support a compelling cause. Every item bought turned creativity into practical assistance, with proceeds contributing to the broad range of support SSAFA provides to the Armed Forces community across the UK and overseas.
Sherin’s contribution is a powerful example of how individual passion can make a real difference. By sharing her artwork so generously, she has helped raise awareness of SSAFA’s mission while also generating significant funds. Her success shows how creative projects can inspire others, bring communities together, and provide tangible support to those who may need SSAFA’s help.
Jonathan Sandall, SSAFA’s Director of Fundraising, Marketing, and Communications, said: “Sherin’s unique artistic talent and creativity have made a genuinely important contribution to SSAFA.
“Through her distinctive sketches, she has not only raised around £27,000, but also helped reached people, new audiences, inspired purchases, and strengthened our ability to help.
“SSAFA is enormously grateful for Sherin’s support and the difference her work continues to make. Her sketches and drawings have become much more than works of art; they are a meaningful part of the charity’s fundraising efforts and a reflection of the generosity that underpins support for the whole Armed Forces family.”
