Rising star of the comedy world to host ‘Project Fire and Ice’ evening for SSAFA

21 October 2025

Project Fire and Ice, the gruelling 514-kilometre Arctic Ultra challenge in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity garnered much attention not least because of those taking part, the well-known veterans Jason Fox, Karl Hinnett, Aldo Kane, and Brian Wood MC.

The adventure in the snowy forests of Swedish Lapland was recorded and the film – soon to be screened on Channel 4 – documents the highs and lows of their trial of endurance, spirit, and camaraderie.

SSAFA is offering an exclusive chance to watch previously unseen footage of Project Fire and Ice in the company of Jason, Karl, Aldo, and Brian on Monday, December 8 as part of the charity’s successful “An Evening with…” series.

The event is to be held at London Scottish House and hosted by veteran and comedian Pat Smith.

Jason, or “Foxy” as he is known, is a former Royal Marines Commando and member of the Special Boat Service, who has since carved out a career in media, notably SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Karl achieved unwanted fame for a dramatically iconic photograph of him aged 18 escaping on fire from a burning Warrior armoured vehicle in Iraq. He suffered burns to some 37% of his body.

Aldo, a former Royal Marines Commando sniper, has established himself an adventurer, world-record setter, and safety adviser for a string of films.

Brian – late the Princess of Wales’s Regiment, now an author and motivational speaker – received the Military Cross for a daring action in Iraq.

Essex-born Pat has enjoyed wins at major competitions such as Leicester Comedy Festival’s Laughter Craft Gong, Frog and Bucket's Beat The Frog, and Up The Creek’s The Blackout. He also claimed victory on Laughter Class, comedy's answer to X-Factor, run by Ustreme TV. His success led to Pat Smith: LIVE, a 30-minute stand-up special commissioned by Ustreme TV, as well as a spot supporting Jim Davidson on tour and subsequent appearances on Ustreme's Friday Night Comedy Live.

His online skits have gone viral, amassing millions of views and earning features on Voxi mobile and BBC Upload on Radio Essex.

Pat, who will chair an open and frank panel discussion with the intrepid quartet, then host a Q & A session for the audience, said: “It should be a great evening for a great cause! Looking forward to meeting the fellas and asking the big questions, such as ‘Was it cold?’ and ‘Did your legs hurt?’.”

Tickets for this one-of-a-kind evening are priced at £30 and can be bought here.

Please note that all VIP tickets have now sold and demand for remaining tickets is high, so booking early is recommended.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm sharp start. The venue is London Scottish House, 95 Horseferry Road, London, SW1P 2DX, and the nearest Tube stations are St James’s Park, Victoria, and Westminster.

A raffle with some incredible prizes – including from ThruDark and Vivo Barefoot – will conclude the evening.
