RAF Benson team completes gruelling National Three Peaks Challenge in support of SSAFA

A determined team from the Joint Helicopter Support Squadron (JHSS) at RAF Benson has successfully completed the National Three Peaks Challenge, summiting the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. 

The team tackled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), overcoming challenging weather conditions, difficult terrain and little opportunity for rest. The challenge demanded exceptional physical endurance, resilience and teamwork, with every member supporting one another throughout the journey. 

More than just an endurance test, the challenge was undertaken to raise awareness and vital funds for SSAFA, who provide lifelong practical, emotional and financial support to serving personnel, veterans and their families. 

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, the team has raised £2,500 for SSAFA, with donations continuing to come through. 

Master Aircrew Vickers said: “Completing the National Three Peaks Challenge was incredibly tough, but knowing we were doing it to support SSAFA kept us motivated every step of the way. We’d like to thank everyone who has donated, shared our story, and encouraged us throughout the challenge. We’re proud to have raised both funds and awareness for a charity that means so much to the Armed Forces personnel and their families.”

The success of the challenge reflects the determination, teamwork and commitment demonstrated by personnel across JHSS, while highlighting the Squadron’s continued support for the wider Armed Forces community.
