FWC chooses SSAFA as charity partner

14 August 2023

Forces Wives Challenge (FWC) is a community interest group promoting mental health and wellbeing for military and veteran’s spouses. Each year they organise a charity hike up Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales, made famous for its part in Special Forces training. This year, they have chosen to support SSAFA for their fundraising.

Steph Quintrell who helps run FWC said: “This is our 6th flagship annual event and we are hoping to have around 100 women join in the walk. It’s a lovely first event for people to join in on; normally people then gain confidence and go on to do other group events with us too. It is awful to see how many women struggle with isolation and loneliness and we aim to put a stop to that.”

Sarah Fraser, a military wife posted to Bovington in Dorset said: “I’ve moved at least every two years for the last decade. It’s exhausting and challenging to make new friends every time. I can’t wait to do the Pen y Fan walk and meet other women who face the same struggles as me, without having to wonder if they really want to speak to me or not.”
