First two Battle Proms Concerts raise more than £17,000 for SSAFA

13 July 2022

The first two weekends of July saw Blenheim Palace and Burghley House host their own Battle Proms concerts in aid of SSAFA, raising more than £17,000!

SSAFA has been Battle Proms’ chosen charity since 2018, and the concert series have raised more than half a million pounds.

The Battle Proms features a full orchestral performance by the New English Concert Orchestra. While the orchestra was slightly smaller this year to allow for social distancing on stage, it lined up yet another programme of soul-stirring classical favourites, including the 1812 Overture and Beethoven’s Battle Symphony, performed with the full complement of 193 live-firing, Napoleonic-era cannon.

This year’s Battle Proms season has so far featured concerts at Blenheim Palace and Burghley House. Two more concerts will take place at Hatfield House on Saturday 16 July and Highclere Castle on Saturday 30 July.

Jonathan Sandall, Director of Fundraising at SSAFA, said: “We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the audiences at the Blenheim Palace and Burghley House Battle Proms concerts this summer. We raised more than £17,000 throughout both days and couldn’t have done it without the fantastic support of the organisers, venue hosts, and our amazing volunteers.

“This money will help SSAFA support the Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, veterans and their families.”

Please feel free to call our Forcesline if you need any support.
