BAE Systems support SSAFA Kent

06 August 2019

SSAFA Kent is delighted to report that BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems sector based in Rochester, have confirmed their continued support for the BAE Kent Welfare Fund. Originally established in 2015, the ‘last resort’ fund has proved a wonderful tool for our caseworker to supply instant financial support to the most urgent or unusual cases.

After the initial introduction, it was so successful and made such a difference, that in 2016, BAE Systems decided to double their annual funding. Over the last four years, the fund has proved to be one of the most valuable changes to the way SSAFA Kent caseworkers are able to operate.
Since the day the fund was established, we have been able to make a total of 74 grants. The grants vary from very small amounts to some quite substantial sums. Solving a wide range of problems by providing funding to obtain such items as household goods, carpets and even urgent travel costs. In a number of cases, we are particularly pleased to report that the fund has assisted in resolving acute accommodation problems. The actual value of individual grants made has ranged from £50.00. to £2,000.00. In every case achieving a result that we could not have managed without the generosity of BAE Systems.

Once again, a huge vote of thanks to the team at BAE Systems for supporting SSAFA Kent, we are absolutely delighted to be able to continue with the Welfare Fund that has proved to be so effective.
