SSAFA Hampshire Volunteers Raise Awareness at Successful Overlord Show
06 June 2026
Six Hampshire SSAFA volunteers – Vicki, Kevin, Johnathon, Stephen, Ron, and Gill – spent three busy days representing SSAFA at this year's hugely popular Overlord Show, enjoying the atmosphere while raising awareness of the charity's work.
The annual event attracted hundreds of military vehicles and reenactors, showcasing military history from the Great War through to the modern day. Alongside the impressive displays, visitors were able to browse militaria traders from across the country, making it a must-visit event for vehicle enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
With a wide variety of food vendors, an onsite beer tent, arena events, and professionally re-enacted battles, the show offered plenty to keep visitors entertained throughout the day. The sunny weather certainly added to the experience, although the heat was intense at times, with temperatures reaching almost 30°C over the weekend.
For the SSAFA team, it was a rewarding few days meeting members of the public and promoting the charity's support for serving personnel, veterans, and their families. While many of the reenactors and participants spent long hours in heavy period military uniforms, the SSAFA volunteers were certainly grateful for their smart and comfortable SSAFA polo shirts, which helped keep them cool while maintaining a professional appearance.
SSAFA is especially grateful to the Solent Overlord Executive Military Collectors Club for selecting SSAFA as their chosen charity for this year's event. Their generosity and support are greatly appreciated and contributed to a successful and enjoyable weekend. A huge thank you goes to the SSAFA team for their commitment, enthusiasm, and hard work throughout the event. Their efforts helped ensure SSAFA had a strong presence at one of the region's most popular military heritage shows.
