A Wonderful Day of Community at Hill Head

A Wonderful Day of Community at Hill Head Homemade cakes, hot drinks, and a warm welcome helped make for a fantastic day of community engagement at Hill Head on Saturday, 8th August 2026.

Volunteers from the Soldiers', Sailors', and Airmen's Families Association (SSAFA) gathered at the Wheelhouse in the Salterns car park at Hill Head, welcoming members of the public to drop in, enjoy a homemade cake and a cup of tea or coffee, and find out more about the vital work SSAFA does locally.

The beautiful weather certainly helped create the perfect setting, with a steady stream of members of the public stopping by throughout the day to chat with the volunteers, learn more about the charity, and simply enjoy some good old-fashioned community hospitality.

There was plenty of positive engagement, with visitors taking the opportunity to ask questions about SSAFA, the support it provides to serving personnel, veterans, and their families, and how the charity makes a difference within the local community.

The team also had a very special visit from the mayor of Fareham, Councillor Mrs. Tina Ellis, and her husband, Councillor Robert Ellis, who took time to sit down with the volunteers, hear more about SSAFA's work, and enjoy a slice of the homemade cake. The event was a great success and demonstrated once again the importance of bringing local charities and the community together.

A huge thank you goes to all the SSAFA volunteers from Fareham & Gosport who gave up their time to make the day possible, as well as everyone from the local community who stopped by, shared a conversation, and found out a little more about the work SSAFA does.

With such a fantastic response, the team is already looking forward to the next drop-in event.
