Poppies to Paddington

16 November 2020

On Remembrance Day SSAFA Gloucestershire took part in Poppies to Paddington. This was organised by Great Western Railway and commemorated railwaymen and members of the forces from the region who died in both world wars.. Poppy wreaths were collected by early trains all around the GWR region - from Hereford, South Wales, Bristol and all the way down to Penzance. The wreaths were gathered on the War Memorial on Platform 1 at Paddington for the silence at 11am.

The pictures show SSAFA Branch Secretary Squadron Leader Roger Wilson delivering our wreath to the train at Gloucester Station. Others providing wreaths on that train included The Mayor of Gloucester, Councillor Kate Haigh, representatives of 6 Rifles and The Royal British Legion local branches.
