SSAFA at the Royal Gun Salute

On Tuesday 8th September in great weather, the Chair of the Edinburgh & Lothians branch of SSAFA, Fergus Hardie, and Fran Good, a Caseworker at the branch, joined Elaine Mcfadyen, Community Engagement Manager for Scotland, at the Royal Gun Salute at Edinburgh Castle. The occasion was in honour of His Majesty The King’s Accession to the Throne.

The day was made even more special as they were joined by CSgt Tam Meighan of the Royal Regiment of Scotland who is an amazing supporter of SSAFA. They were hosted by the Governor of Edinburgh Castle, Major General R B Bruce CBE DSO and the Salute was taken by Major General (Retired) Tim Hyams CB OBE, Chief Executive of ABF.

The group said that the precision and professionalism of the 47th Regiment Royal Artillery who carried out the salute was awe inspiring, and standing on the esplanade as the guns fired with the pipes and drums marching below the castle will be an experience they will never forget.
