Special award for SSAFA Dumfries and Galloway volunteer

SSAFA Dumfries and Galloway Branch volunteer Inga McVicar has been presented with a Regional Recognition Award for her support of serving military personnel, veterans, and their families.

A caseworker with SSAFA’s Dumfries and Galloway Branch, Inga provides direct support to veterans in the local community who have approached SSAFA for help. Her role can see her organising food vouchers for residents struggling to access necessities, helping to coordinate appointments with council and healthcare services, and supporting with funeral arrangements for those who have lost a family member. With a specific focus on mobility and social care, Inga works with some of Dumfries and Galloway’s most vulnerable residents. 

Inga said: “For me, my role with SSAFA is all about getting out and about in the region and meeting lots of amazing people. These are folk who have given so much to all of us through their service, and to be able to give back by supporting them is an immense privilege.” 

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity exists to ensure no member of the Armed Forces community need ever battle alone. It is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans, and their families in their time of need.  

With 17 branches and nearly 200 volunteers in Scotland, the biannual Regional Recognition Awards were established in 2023 to formally acknowledge extra endeavour by SSAFA volunteers, staff and external supporters across its Scottish network.

She is truly tenacious in pursuing the best possible outcome for the veterans she works with and is a real champion for the Forces community locally. We couldn’t be prouder of her for achieving a SSAFA Regional Recognition Award.”
