LOCAL VOLUNTEER RECEIVES HRH PRINCE MICHAEL OF KENT AWARD

Mrs Claire Williams was awarded the HRH Prince Michael of Kent Award for her services to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Claire, from Devon, received the HRH Prince Michael of Kent award for her outstanding services to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. She was presented the award by HRH Prince Michael of Kent at the Annual Members' Meeting in London on Thursday 11th July.

Claire married a Royal Marines Commando Officer before moving to Devon and setting up her own catering business. She began fundraising for SSAFA Plymouth in 2009 before becoming the Branch Secretary for SSAFA Devon eight years ago.

Kirsty Bushell, Vice Chairman of SSAFA, said: “Her dedication and selfless commitment to SSAFA and to SSAFA Devon has been far beyond what might reasonably be expected of any volunteer. She is hugely respected by all who know her, and I cannot imagine anyone more deserving of recognition.”

The event was attended by HRH Prince Michael of Kent, SSAFA controller, Andrew Gregory, SSAFA Chairman, Sir Gary Coward, Vice Chairman, Kirsty Bushell and Honorary Treasurer, David Rowe, alongside volunteers and employees of SSAFA.
