SSAFA volunteers and Junior Soldiers join forces at AFC Harrogate

SSAFA volunteers and Junior Soldiers join forces at AFC Harrogate

SSAFA volunteers Beverley Robb, Shirley Wilson and Bob Walton were joined by four Junior Soldiers to raise funds and awareness for the Armed Forces charity at the Army Foundation College Harrogate Passing Out Parade. Beverley and Bob represented SSAFA North Yorkshire and Shirley represented SSAFA Durham at the event on 6 August, hosting the charity’s stand and speaking to families and visitors about the practical, emotional and financial support available to the Armed Forces community. They were supported by Junior Soldiers Riley Pybourne, Joe Bratton, Harry McGettrick and Tyler Hayden, who are halfway through their own training at AFC Harrogate. The four volunteered their time to support Beverley, Shirley and Bob and circulated among the crowds to raise awareness of the charity and engage with visitors. They also helped raise an impressive £200 for SSAFA. The Graduation Parade marked a major milestone for 900 Junior Soldiers completing their initial training before progressing to the next stage of their Army careers. SSAFA would like to thank Beverley, Shirley and Bob for their continued dedication and for representing the charity so brilliantly, as well as Riley, Joe, Harry and Tyler for giving their time and providing such enthusiastic support on the day.

Flying high with SSAFA Durham at RAF Leeming

SSAFA Durham’s Bishop Auckland Veterans Group enjoyed a fantastic day at RAF Leeming Families Day recently, with the group arranging a special coach to take 43 members along for the occasion. With beautiful weather, a brilliant turnout and an amazing aerial display, there was plenty to see and enjoy throughout the day. SSAFA Durham also had a stand at the event, giving our volunteers the opportunity to meet members of the Armed Forces community, make new connections and spread the word about the support and services SSAFA can provide. SSAFA Durham Bishop Auckland Veterans Group Chair Mike Donne described the day as “absolutely brilliant” — and judging by the smiles, we think everyone agreed! A huge thank you to RAF Leeming for such a fantastic day, to all our amazing volunteers and to everyone who came over to say hello. 💙❤️
