Upavon coronation celebrations

15 May 2023

As the Monarch is the head of the British Armed Forces, it is no surprise that the serving community in Upavon came together to have a jolly good knees-up to toast the newly crowned King.

The weather was kind and the sun shone on the celebrations last Sunday. Traditional entertainment such as a Tug ‘o’ War, face painting, music, bouncy castle, obstacle course and the ubiquitous tea and cake, were enjoyed by the families in attendance.

Harriet Hood, Salisbury Serving Community Team Chair said: “For a small population of 144 service families, the community spirit was buzzing and everyone who attended was enjoying the long bank holiday weekend to the full.

The children of the community also planted a commemorative coronation tree for the King.

Maj Rob Durling said: “The event was a huge success thanks to a really friendly and co-operative approach from all those involved. My sense was that everyone who attended had a great time and there were some extremely happy, tired (and painted) faces at the end of the day.
