SSAFA Signs Kirklees Council Military Covenant.
Council signs pledge to support Armed Forces
Kirklees Council and its partners recently pledged their support for Britain’s servicemen and women by signing the Armed Forces Covenant, a formal declaration that acknowledges their close co-operation with the Armed Forces Community.
The Armed Forces Covenant was signed by the Leader of the Council, Councillor David Sheard, all Group leaders, Major Lisa Marr on behalf of the Armed Forces Community, Chief Superintendent Steven Cotter on behalf of West Yorkshire Police and representatives from West Yorkshire SSAFA, the Royal British Legion and Third Sector Leaders. Councillor Masood Ahmed, chair of the Armed Forces Covenant Board, said: “Kirklees Council originally signed the Covenant in June 2012 and I am delighted that the council is showing its continued support by signing it again. “The sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces Community should not be forgotten.” Major Lisa Marr, Head of Engagement (Yorkshire & The Humber) 4 Infantry Brigade said: “When an organisation signs the covenant not only does it pledge its support to our Armed Forces past and present, but to those people within its own business who may serve as a Reservist or as a Cadet Force adult volunteer, and displays its willingness to welcome these people into its workforce. “We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership.”
Keighley Veterans' Donatation to SSAFA
Our Thanks for their donation
VETERANS from Keighley have united to donate cash for armed forces charity SSAFA.
Members of three regimental associations chipped in to raise £100 to help comrades living with injury and illness.
The regimental associations of the Yorkshire Regiment, the Yorkshire Volunteers and the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment meet each month at Keighley Drill Hall.
They recently invited Phil Kendall from the Keighley division of SSAFA – formerly the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association – to receive the money.
Mr Kendall said: “We are extremely grateful for the kind donations and support, which all goes towards SSAFA being able to provide assistance for our ex-forces community, and their dependents, when they are most in need.
“The people of Keighley are very supportive of us. The generosity of several local publicans and their patrons, in particular the Volunteer Arms, as well as many kind-hearted individuals, enables us to continue our work on their behalf.”
The joint Regimental Association enjoys an active and friendly membership, with the veterans meeting on the last Friday of every month.
The Association members would be more than happy to welcome anyone who had ever served with the local Regular or Territorial Army forces.
nyone interested in joining should contact Dave Connor by emailing email@example.com or call 07528 672114 for further information.
The Keighley division of SSAFA is also based at the Drill Hall, in Lawkholme Lane, and anyone in need of help should email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01535 669354. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 10.30am to 3pm.
SSAFA is one of the largest military charities, founded in 1885 to support serving and ex-serving Armed Forces personnel and their dependents.
Branches and divisions cover every area of the UK, as well as overseas wherever the Forces save.
A spokesman said: “SSAFA has teams of caring, highly-trained and dedicated volunteer caseworkers, meeting people in their own homes, responding to requests and enquiries, identifying their needs, and providing important help whether financial, practical and emotional.
With thanks to the Keighley News
