Sakela Ubhauli

06 August 2019

On Saturday 18th May, we and our friends from SSAFA Berkshire were invited to attend the Festival of Sakela Ubhauli (Ascending Nature) held by the Kirat Rai Yayokkha (UK) in Ripley, Surrey.

It is one of the major Nepalese Festivals and over 4,500 Nepalese people of the Kirat Rai attended the event, also in attendance was the Nepalese Ambassador to the UK and the Mayor & Mayoress of Guildford.

SSAFA was represented by volunteers from Surrey and Berkshire. Specialist equipment and support were provided by SSAFA Gurkha Services.

The objective was to raise the level of awareness of the charity within the Gurkha Veteran community and over 100 copies of the 'Who we help' flyer, which had been translated into Nepalese, were handed out.

Volunteers and staff from the 'English lessons for Gurkha wives' project in Reading were also on hand to give advice and guidance.

We were delighted to be there for an interesting and fun day, enjoyed by all.
