What is a SSAFA Warrior Challenge like?

To get a feel for the SSAFA Warrior Challenge, please watch this video from our 2024 event (we will just be swapping out sand for snow!):

2024's team had a fantastic time, and raised an incredible sum for SSAFA, and we cannot wait to do it again!

Temperatures can get as low as -25 degrees, so warm clothing will be essential!  As well as everything else needed for a successful long distance event!

A full kit list will be provided to all registrants.

Food can be purchased at the hotel or in the local town. Some basic food can be purchased at the start and end of the course. However, all your race food nutrition (snack bars and drinks) are best brought from the UK.

To get the provided transfer, you will need to fly to Umea (via Stockholm).

A full medical team from the UK who will be tied in with the Swedish hospitals. GPS trackers for every runner/walker. Warm checkpoints every 8-10km with a medic and crew at each. Roaming snowmobiles and 4x4's to check on participant health and safety.

Quality hotel in Skelleftea. Basic (but warm) inside camping. Hot showers and toilets and a small bar.

Follow any normal half marathon or marathon training program on the internet (or check out the SSAFA running plans here!). Ultimately, its about time on feet, not speed.

You will need a passport to fly to Sweden, but if you are a UK or European Union resident you don't need a visa. Other nationalities please check here.

SSAFA can give you lots of fundraising ideas that have worked for our previous fundraisers. We can also provide you with some fundraising materials to support whichever activities you choose to do.

Don't worry about that!  For safety reasons, there will be some cut offs if anyone is struggling to finish the event in a reasonable time. But ultimately, the team, organisers and medics want everyone to get to the finish line. The person who comes in last always gets the biggest cheer!

The weather can change everything! But predominantly you'll be running on snow mobile trails, frozen lakes and some tracks and roads.

Your flights, personal kit and spending money in country.

No, both the 50km and the 25km will be one day events. However with the travel (and accommodation) this will be a multi-day trip.
