It’s more than just a race; it’s a journey through 2,500 years of history. Take your place in running folklore and trace the legendary footsteps of the original messenger, Pheidippides, from the battlefield of Marathon to the heart of ancient Athens.

This is the Authentic Marathon, a challenge unlike any other, culminating in one of the most emotional finishes in all of sport: the iconic, all-marble Panathenaic Stadium, site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896

The Athens Marathon is like running through a living history book! Starting in the legendary town of Marathon, the site of the famous battle 2,500 years ago, runners kick off with a breezy downhill stretch before looping past the Tomb of the Fallen, a tribute to the ancient fallen heroes.  The route then follows flatlands before entering the hills around Athens - with a triumphant downhill dash into the famous city of antiquity, and to the finish line at the Olympic stadium.
