Tea and cake raise vital funds for forces families

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity’s dedicated Service Committee at Royal Air Force Honington raised over £1,000 at their recent Big Brew Up event.

The RAF Regiment Heritage Centre was full as guests enjoyed a hot drink and cake at the Camp’s annual Big Brew Up. The tremendous success of the event is down to the hard work of the SSAFA Honington team, and also relied on the support of the many people who volunteered to help on the day. Not to mention lots of kind supporters who baked the beautiful cakes. The cake competition winner was Mrs Pamela Morris with her themed cake (pictured).

Local businesses, including Adams Thursford, Christmas Spectacular, Greene King Brewery and the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum supported the event by donating superb prizes for the charity raffle.

Wing Commander Suzi Senior MBE said: “The money raised supports the work of our very active and hardworking SSAFA Casework Volunteers plus enables us to give community and individual grants to both our local service and veteran communities.”

The SSAFA Honington team also run an annual Veterans Christmas Lunch, which is being held on 7th December this year.
