SSAFA Staffordshire Veterans Virtual Cycle Tour Raises £12,800!

We are really pleased to announce that our recent virtual cycle challenge, 'Somme to Ypres', has raised £12,800! 

Due to Covid 19, fundraising efforts for 2020 have been hit badly across the country. SSAFA Staffordshire and The Tri-Service & Veterans Support Centre held a fundraising event with a difference to compensate for not being able to hold their annual battlefield expedition, a virtual battlefield tour by bicycle with local veterans.

This year the event was a 290-mile round trip – held entirely remotely, taking cyclists virtually from Calais to the Somme, onto Ypres and back to Calais. The public joined veterans Bert, age 96, and Norman, age 101 from the 23 – 26 September 2020 and raised £12,800 for SSAFA Staffordshire and the Tri-Service Veterans Support Centre.

Kathy Munslow, SSAFA Caseworker (one of her many hats) said:

“We are so pleased and grateful for everyone’s hard work. I took part too and it was lovely to be cycling alongside veterans like Bert and Norman.”
