SSAFA is here to support the Armed Forces community in Scotland.

We are the trusted source of support for our serving personnel, veterans and their families in Scotland. We provide important welfare and wellbeing assistance to those currently serving in the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force, as well veterans and family members.

Since 1885 we have provided practical, emotional, and financial support that is tailored to our Armed Forces community, we know about the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or when posted overseas.

Kiltwalk 2024

Scotland's Kiltwalk has been fundraising for charities since 2016, with almost 150,000 participants raising millions of pounds.

Volunteer your skills

Volunteers are the heart of SSAFA and we simply could not reach as many people and make such a difference without this amazing support.

What you are supporting in Scotland

SSAFA provides all of our core services in Scotland, the most crucial being just someone for people to talk to, to understand their concerns and let them know that help is available.

Our Glasgow’s Helping Heroes team, working with Glasgow Council, provide additional services for Glasgow's large veteran population.

We provide adoption services to military families, we support Scotland's Gurkha community, we provide social care and emotional support to soldiers, sailors and aviators on their bases, both at home and abroad.

We provide housing for those recovering from injury or illness, and for their families. We operate sheltered accommodation for women and children leaving failed relationships. We provide support for veterans in prison or custody, and we provide mentoring for those freshly leaving the Forces. We assist Armed Forces families living with a disability and even provide short breaks for those families.

Our work is extensive and varied, but for those who need our help it is irreplaceable.

Who we have helped in Scotland

SSAFA helps tens of thousands of people in Scotland every year, in a hundred different ways and we couldn’t do it without our volunteers.

Here are just three stories demonstrating how SSAFA helps people, and the lasting impact it has on their lives:

Dan

Dan McNeil came from a Dumfries military family, but he struggled in the Army due to an undiagnosed auto-immune disease. SSAFA helped him find his feet again, and he is now one of our champion fundraisers!

Gerard

Glaswegian Gerard Smith was the first member of his family to join the RAF, but his career was cut short by the discovery of a brain tumour. Gerard and his family were supported by SSAFA during his time at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre.

Graham

Scots Guards veteran Graham wanted something to do in his retirement, and decided to help out SSAFA. Eleven years on and he provides essential casework, mostly helping veterans find the support they need.
