SSAFA Powys Branch celebrates a year of community support as it looks ahead to 2026
18 December 2025
As the Armed Forces community comes together for Christmas, SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity’s Powys Branch is celebrating a year of meaningful local impact, from veteran outreach and community events to fundraising moments that strengthened the region’s support for serving personnel, veterans and their families.
Throughout 2025, Powys volunteers delivered a busy calendar of activity, including coffee mornings, remembrance events, awareness stands at the Royal Welsh and Brecon Shows, a well attended cocktail reception at 160 Brigade headquarters and visits to veteran hubs across the county. Each event helped connect SSAFA with those who need support and those who want to learn more about the charity’s work.
Support from the community also shone through, with donations from the Infantry Battle School, Llandrindod Bingo Evening Club, and visitors at Talgarth Farmers Market – where generous locals even gifted their raffle tickets to others in need.
As Christmas approaches, SSAFA Powys Branch Chair, Jacqueline Wilding, paid tribute to volunteers and supporters across the county: “Christmas is a reminder of the importance of community, and our volunteers have embodied that spirit all year. Every conversation, every coffee morning and every event has strengthened the support available to our Armed Forces family here in Powys. I want to thank everyone who has stood with us in 2025 – and invite more people to join us in 2026 as we continue to grow our outreach, expand our volunteer team and support even more veterans and their families.”
Looking ahead, SSAFA’s Powys Branch is preparing a full programme for 2026, including a St David’s Day Concert, regular coffee mornings and a SSAFA awareness talk at Christ College. The branch will continue to attend the Royal Welsh Show and Brecon Show among others, and renewed efforts to visit veteran hubs across the county. The branch is also encouraging new volunteers to come forward, especially those interested in community engagement - to help meet increasing demand for support.
