Yorkshireman runs London Marathon and raises funds for SSAFA

25 October 2021

Yorkshireman Will Jolleys ran the London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October, so far raising £1259 for SSAFA.

The young runner was keen to put his best foot forward for the charity having seen the good work that they do throughout the armed forces community. He is also committed to raising awareness of mental health challenges and the effects that they can have on those who served and are still serving.

When he has recovered from the marathon, Will intends to pursue his application to RMA Sandhurst, to train as an officer in the British Army.

Will said, “In terms of how things went during the event itself, I was completely overawed by the support from spectators. There was a real sense of community spirit as you ran through the boroughs of East London, with people turning out to hand out food and drink, play music or cheer on their loved ones.”

But on the issue of fundraising he remains focussed saying, ”it seems apparent that whilst running a marathon is a demanding physical undertaking, the sense of achievement stems fundamentally from your own ‘why’. For myself, this ‘why’ meant raising money and awareness for SSAFA, who’s cause is one I believe to be of vital importance and worthy of recognition, and one I am proud to have advocated."
