Mother’s Day marked by SSAFA midwives and health visitors

10 March 2024

Midwives, health visitors, and nurses from SSAFA's overseas Community Health Team have hosted events in advance of Mother’s Day (March 10) with “Celebration of Birth” get-togethers in Cyprus, where the team is based.

Midwives in Episkopi and Akrotiri led the events for mums and babies, with Akrotiri Team Leader Rachel Thurlow commenting: “The Celebration of Birth event in Aki was an opportunity for the parents of the 50+ babies born in 2023 to come together and to celebrate their journeys as parents.

“It was wonderful for the midwives and the Community Health Team to see how the babies had progressed and how the parents had grown in confidence. And of course, there was a lot of cake to enjoy.”

Epi Community Midwife Julie Fletcher added: “The SSAFA Episkopi team also held a wonderful Celebration of Birth event. It was a great turn out from mums and babies born in 2023. Prizes were won, celebratory cake was eaten, and midwife baby cuddles were had. A great day all round.”

These events were also perfect opportunities for staff to ask parents how they find the Digital Personal Child Health Record – commonly known as the eRedbook – which was launched in 2019 by the Community Health Team.

The eRedbook includes not just the usual weight and immunisation data but also when their child has had hospital appointments and operations, which has meant that parents can be confident that they can take this information with them to their next posting to share with the health service there.

The last word – or words – however, go to SSAFA’s midwives, health visitors, and nurses from around the globe, who have a special message for all the mums out there on Mother’s Day:
