Prestigious Sir James Gildea Awards presented to London SW Branch volunteers

31 May 2024

As part of the London South West Branch Annual General Meeting on 15 May 2024, two of our volunteers, Sue Foster and Dame Sylvia Morris DBE, were presented with Sir James Gildea Awards for their outstanding work in SSAFA London South West Branch.

The Sir James Gildea Awards, named after the founder of SSAFA, were created to recognise volunteers for their exceptional contribution and commitment to SSAFA’s activities and values.

Kirsty Bushell CBE (SSAFA National Vice Chair) presented the prestigious awards to Sue Foster (Division Secretary Croydon Division) and Sylvia Morris (Branch Secretary and Merton Richmond and Wandsworth Division Secretary). Also present at the awards presentation was Brigadier David Santa-Olalla DSO MC, the new London Region Representative and the great great grandson of Sir James Gildea. David was kind enough to say a few words about his ancestor's positive view on the importance of volunteering.

This was a very special occasion for the Branch, and we congratulate Sue and Sylvia that their outstanding work as Branch volunteers has been recognised in this way.
