Pitch Up: Leicester Tigers Foundation opens its iconic doors for SSAFA charity event

15 January 2026

Veterans and rugby fans alike are invited to Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium, in partnership with SSAFA, to support the local Armed Forces community.  Held at Leicester Tigers HQ, the networking event will take place on Friday 30 January 7-9pm.

The ticketed event is open to all who wish to honour and support local veterans, serving personnel and their families in Leicestershire.

Titled “United in Support of Veterans”, this inspiring event will celebrate veterans and serving personnel, bringing together all those attending over a shared loved of rugby.  Whilst learning more about the important work SSAFA and the Leicester Tigers Foundation deliver, guests will be treated to an appearance from Tigers legend and RAF veteran, Martin Whitcombe, alongside other special guests.

Gareth Bull, SSAFA Branch Chair for Leicestershire & Rutland, commented: “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Leicester Tigers Foundation on what is set to be a fantastic event for the local community. Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with other veterans and serving personnel with a keen interest in rugby within the area, whilst meeting some Tigers rugby legends and raising awareness of what both charities offer.”

The ‘United in Support of Veterans’ event kicks off the first partnership activity between SSAFA and the Leicester Tigers Foundation, the official charity of the Leicester Tigers team.

Tickets must be reserved via the Try Booking page and cost £5 per person. Entry will include food and one free drink.  All event proceeds will be donated to SSAFA, supporting those in need within the surrounding communities.

Sam Swift, CEO of the Leicester Tigers Foundation, added: "We are delighted to be partnering with SSAFA to host this evening at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.  We have held a long-standing relationship with the veteran community, hosting Remembrance Day ceremonies each year and working alongside the Royal Leicestershire Regiment to honour those who served with a monument outside of Tigers HQ, so to continue that relationship is very exciting".
