Larkhall resident and former Scots Guard Douglas Brown is riding the Round 50 Strathaven (RS50) cycle event to support the work in Scotland of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

The RS50, which takes place on Sunday, August 18, is billed as a challenging yet fun cycle run ideal for both leisure and club cyclists following a route of 50 miles around the Strathaven area through the surrounding villages of Sandford, Glassford, Chapleton, and Auldhouse.

Launched in 2002, the event has also achieved fame for the renowned home baking available at the various village halls for those who want to make a quick "pit-stop".

Douglas, who spent five years in the Scots Guards, said: “Please join me in raising vital funds to support serving men and women, veterans and families who will call on SSAFA for help in time of need.

Since 1885, thanks to the public's support, SSAFA continues to provide welfare and wellbeing assistance tailored to our Armed Forces community. They know and understand the unique demands of service life, whether in the UK or overseas, and in times of need, they help to enable the Forces family to thrive.
