How can SSAFA help provide a secure place for me and my children?
SSAFA's Stepping Stone home provides a comfortable, secure and female-only place to stay for up to 18 months. From our clean and well-maintained communal spaces and garden to private areas for each resident to make their own, we want our guests to feel like they are in a home from home.
Our experienced Stepping Stone home staff are ready to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible, and are constantly on hand to provide someone to listen to your worries, or provide advice and guidance - whether you plan to move on or reconcile your previous relationship.
Who is eligible for the service?
- Those facing/experiencing domestic abuse, marital separation or homelessness
- Wives/Partners of currently serving personnel
- Wives/Partners of veterans
- Female Veterans
- Daughters (over 18) of serving personnel and veterans
- Inclusive of Non-UK Citizens (eligible to apply for Leave to Remain)
What accommodation is provided?
Fully furnished en-suite private rooms with fully equipped communal lounge/dining/kitchen areas, laundry facilities, play room and spacious garden area. Free WIFI throughout.
The home is located in the Greater London area - for security reasons the exact location will not be shared with non-service users.
What support is available at the Stepping Stone Home?
There are three members of experienced staff that are on hand situated within the home, providing emotional/practical support, advice and guidance on a range of areas; housing, benefits, education, employment, wellbeing and immigration.
How long can I stay at the Stepping Stone Home?
The Stepping Stone Home is not a long-term option. Service Users will have an Excluded Licence Agreement which is a rolling week to week tenancy. This is due to the accommodation being shared and to enable priority when approaching local authority housing services. The guided limit is 18 months.

SSAFA's Supported Housing service is only available to women, and their children, if they have received at least one day's pay from the Armed Forces (British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines, including Reserves), or are in the immediate family of someone who served.
