Founded in 1885, we’re extremely proud of our long-standing heritage and of all the work we do with inspiring people from Greater Birmingham, across the UK and around the world.

Volunteering with us.

Some interesting volunteering facts -

  • SSAFA Birmingham is staffed entirely by volunteers including office staff, community caseworkers, members of the committee and our treasurers
  • We are all trained in skills that help us to meet the needs of the military community including safeguarding (for vulnerable people), equal opportunities and diversity, handling information in confidence (GDPR) and other changes in the law that affect your rights and entitlements.
  • Volunteering is a social thing - it opens doors to making new friends as well as acquiring new skills by learning from others.
  • You don't need to have been in military service to volunteer with us.
