SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is a trusted source of support for serving personnel, veterans and their families in their time of need. Founded in 1885, we’re extremely proud of our long-standing heritage and of all the work we do with inspiring people from Argyll & Bute, across the UK and around the world.

We love what we do. The sense of pride you get when you know you’ve helped someone get their independence and dignity back is extraordinary. Through volunteering for SSAFA Argyll & Bute, you’ll have the chance to meet some truly inspiring people, with stories you’ll never forget. You’ll also gain new skills and experiences, but most importantly, you’ll make a difference in the lives of those who have dedicated their lives, often at great sacrifice, to protect and serve our country.
As the first point of contact for SSAFA in the area, you will play a crucial part in promoting SSAFA locally, organising events and ensuring the smooth running of SSAFA across the divisions in your branch.
You can help people in need by visiting, listening and talking to them, to work out the best ways to support them.
Help your local SSAFA branch deliver a variety of activities and events with the aim of generating awareness and making a positive impact on the local community.
Could you give emotional and practical support and guidance to serving personnel and their families?
Olwen Cantlay served in the Whitehall War Rooms during the Second World War - and nearly 81 years on celebrated her birthday with SSAFA, Sister Force and Tranmere Rovers Football Club.
SSAFA's Norton House - a home-from-home for the families of patients at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre - was given a lick of fresh pain thanks to volunteers from Rolls-Royce.
The Kukri Kitchen Cookbook - supported by Dame Joanna Lumley, the Gurkha Welfare Trust and SSAFA - has been providing recipes, and supporting the charities activities for over a decade!
SSAFA’s award-winning specialist welfare service - Glasgow's Helping Heroes - has undergone a brand change, and is now known as SSAFA Connect.
