BBC Radio 4 Appeal

Ben Fogle calls for your support of our special charity appeal on BBC Radio 4.

SSAFA is delighted to have been selected for the BBC Radio 4 Appeal.

Ben Fogle, renowned adventurer, former Royal Navy Reservist, and SSAFA supporter, visited the BBC centre to record our charity appeal, which will be broadcast to the nation on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday 26 (at 07:54 and 21:25) and on Thursday 30 October (at 15:27).

During the 3 minute appeal broadcast, Ben talks about army veteran, and SSAFA beneficiary, Dean.

Dean's story is not unique.  A proud soldier who found life after the military a struggle.  A struggle which turned into depression, which led to homelessness.  It took Dean three years before he was willing to look for help - like many in our Armed Forces he wanted to be self-reliant, even as he battled his demons alone.

When Dean did finally contact SSAFA we were there for him.  A caseworker was sent to him.  Conversations led to new hope - and then a new flat, and training for a new line of work.  Now Dean is secured at home, happy in employment, and able to provide for those he cares about.

This transformation in Dean's life is only possible thanks to our incredible supporters, people like you who make donations, or join our events, or volunteer for our frontline work, we are able to be there for people like Dean - to ensure that no one battles alone.
