New Beginnings

Behind closed doors, hope fades.

Grief, stress, anxiety, depression, fear.

Emotions that can paralyse anyone, trapping them in helplessness and dread. No one should face this alone, especially those who have served our country.

Tracy is one such veteran.

Her years in the Women’s Royal Army Corps had made her strong and proud, serving on the front line for the nation.

Life as a civilian unravelled it all.

Caring for her sick husband, then grieving his loss, left her with mounting debts and collapsing finances. Soon she was trapped at home, overwhelmed and unable to see a way out.

But then Tracy made a life-changing call - to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

This is Tracy's story:

SSAFA exists for everyone in the Armed Forces community.  For those still serving, for their families, and for veterans just like Tracy.

We are here to provide the emotional and practical support anyone may need when faced with troubling times, whatever the cause, including the incredibly brave men and women in our Armed Forces and the families they leave behind.

Support SSAFA today in our mission to ensure that No One Battles Alone.

How SSAFA helps

Within a couple of days Jim, a SSAFA Caseworker - part of our incredible volunteer network - had been assigned to Tracy, and made the call to her home, showing she was not alone.

Jim helped secure emergency funding for Tracy, to alleviate some of the debt, and to provide warm clothes, and an unbroken bed.

But more than that Jim helped Tracy find hope.  They would leave the house together to go for a walk, to show Tracy the world was a place for her.  He introduced her to a local veteran's breakfast club where she could make new friends who shared her military background.

When Tracy was frightened, we sat beside her.

When she was lost, we showed her the way.

Because no one should battle alone.

Help SSAFA support all members of our Armed Forces community.

Tracy is one of many.  Every day SSAFA receives messages from people who need our help.  Every day we help members of our Armed Forces community improve their lives, and find new hope.
