Volunteer to support forces families

SSAFA is currently seeking volunteers for our ‘Family Support Group’ national events to support bereaved families

SSAFA’s Familiy Support Groups help the bereaved parents, children and siblings of servicemen and women killed in action or of those who are injured, wounded or sick. For the last 130 years, through every World War and conflict the UK has seen, SSAFA has provided specialist support for as long as is needed for the families left behind.

SSAFA is currently recruiting volunteers for our ‘Family Support Group’ national events in support of military families. Volunteer positions are needed to assist at  5 weekend meetings a year, all held in a central location outside of London. These support groups have three areas of focus: Families of Wounded Injured & Sick Personnel (FISP) Bereaved Families support group (BFSG), and the Bereaved Siblings Support Group (BSSG).

We are looking for a  team of skilled volunteers to support these events. Tasks would include general event support (helping on the front desk, acting as a point of information etc) and demonstrating understanding and empathy with our support group members during activities. We do not offer therapeutic or clinical interventions and volunteers would not be expected to do so at any point during their experience.

Volunteers would be expected to attend a brief phone interview and half-day training session at SSAFA’s head offices in central London, and at least one weekend meeting outside London (travel, accommodation and meals covered by SSAFA).

Interested volunteers should send an email entitled ‘SSAFA Volunteer’ to zeenat.r@ssafa.org.uk by Friday 26th February to be sent an application pack. They would also be welcome to call Zeenat (020 7463 9341) with any questions about the recruitment process or voluntary activities.
