Nicola Turrell - Marathon Runner

A local Malvern woman aims to raise £3,000 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity in this year’s London Marathon.

Nicola, who will be running her first marathon, has a fundraising target of £3,000, but is hoping to smash that with her upcoming fundraising activities, including a local quiz night.

She will be supporting SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, after being a supporter of the charity for many years.

She said: “My neighbours would throw these amazing garden parties to raise money for SSAFA. They were great, the kids loved them! They raised so much awareness for SSAFA in the local community.”

“Last year, during the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, Trevor and Pat [Nicola’s neighbours] helped my family discover more about my Great Grandfather who fought in the Battle of the Somme. It was amazing to have that connection to the Armed Forces and SSAFA.”

“My fundraising is going well. I hosted a bake sale on Valentine’s day and baked over 350 fairy cakes! I’ve also been working with a local school who have been creating their own garden ornaments and selling them as part of their fundraising week. So far, they’ve raised over £570 for SSAFA.”

Nicola will be taking part in the London marathon on Sunday 28th April. If you would like to help Nicola reach her fundraising target, please follow this link:
