Since early 2016 men and women, serving, ex-serving and civilians have been doing the #22pushupchallenge to raise awareness of the shocking statistics about military veterans mental health in the US – that 22 veterans take their own lives every day.
For twenty two days, the individual who has taken on the challenge must complete 22 pushups, upload the video to social media, and nominate a new person each day to also undertake the challenge. The campaign has gone viral, with hundreds of thousands of men and women completing the challenge and raising valuable awareness for the issues of PTSD and veteran’s mental health struggles.
Those taking part have also used the challenge as an opportunity to raise money for military charities, sometimes donating £22 themselves, others fundraising to further promote the cause. If you are taking part in the challenge, you can donate to SSAFA or fundraise for SSAFA alongside the social media posts, allowing us to continue our valuable work supporting those in need.
