Short breaks for families with a disability
Activity breaks for members of the Armed Forces and their families who have a child with a disability and/or an additional need.
I would say the experience was life-changing for us – it was a hundred times better than a normal holiday and being around other families who are in a similar situation was much more relaxing.

SSAFA is excited to offer our Short Breaks programme for military families at the Calvert Trust Exmoor.

Short Break 2020 Details:
EXMOOR FAMILY BREAK
October 26th – 30th
Calvert Trust, Exmoor
This break is for Armed Forces families with children aged 5-18 years who have an additional need or disability. Siblings are also welcome! There must be at least one parent attending alongside their children. The break takes place at Exmoor Calvert Trust in a beautiful setting overlooking a reservoir in Devon. Daily activities include:
- Horse riding
- Kayaking
- Biking
- Sailing
- Archery
- Abseiling
- Bushcraft
- Low ropes
Families sleep in their own rooms on-site; we will make sure that families are in rooms next to one another if we cannot fit the whole family in one room. Three hot meals a day are provided.
Eligibility:
- All children within the family must be between 5-18 years.
- Children are dependents of a current serving person or reservist.
- One child attending must have an additional need and/or disability.
- At least one parent must attend the break with their children.
