Corporate Volunteering

Corporate volunteering is a fantastic way of engaging your employees with the work that SSAFA does every day.

Corporate volunteering makes a huge impact to the work of our service delivery teams and it is a guaranteed way of making a positive difference to beneficiaries’ lives. It also brings employees together in a way that promotes a sense of togetherness and team-building.

We have a range of volunteering projects for your team to choose from and we always do our best to accommodate your preferred dates and group numbers.

Whilst we are usually able to co-ordinate corporate’s opportunities with local branches and service committees on an ad-hoc basis, there are other ways that employees can get involved with SSAFA. You can arrange a goods collection for your nearest SSAFA residential home, plan your annual team away day in support of SSAFA or grab a SSAFA collection tin and do a collection at your office or local train station.

With events occurring at different times of the year including Armed Forces Week and commemorations such as the D-Day Landings, there are many opportunities available.

SSAFA Residential Homes

Often our homes require help with specific maintenance projects such as gardening, painting and ground clearing. This leaves the staff and volunteers who manage our homes more time to focus on attending to the needs of the SSAFA beneficiaries who reside there.

As SSAFA are the chosen charity of Clarion Defence and Security we enjoy helping the Royal Homes staff with an annual winter gardening clean up. The day is highly rewarding and satisfying for our team, who not only get a day out of the office but also get to support one of Clarion’s major partners and a very worthy cause.  Over the years we have raked piles of leaves, weeded the gardens, painted the fences and cleared the driveways, all of which is enjoyable on top of the lovely comments from the residents and the chocolate gifts that follow!

SSAFA Volunteering Opportunities in the Local Network

Sometimes all our beneficiaries need is help around their homes, whether it be a garden or loft clearance, or a bit of painting. If your employees have volunteering leave to take, this might be the best way to show your support for SSAFA.

As an example of this, in 2018 a team of Openreach engineers volunteered to clear the home of a Royal Artillery veteran, Joe Quigley, in Southend when he was taken into hospital. His home was so cluttered that it posed a risk to his health. SSAFA and Openreach joined forces to clear, clean and upgrade the flat. Joe was thrilled that he was able to return to his home:

I was afraid I’d never get to come home to my own bed and I am so happy to be back. I want to say thank you to everyone who came along and helped to transform my flat – I can get around safely and it’s much cosier.
