Service Committee Fundraiser

Could you help to raise vital funds for SSAFA on a military site?  Ideally you will already be working and or living on site.  You need the ability to get on with all kinds of people, basic I.T skills and good written and spoken English.  If you already have some fundraising experience that would be great too but it’s not essential.

As part of the local Service Committee team on base, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events and in public.  The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, quizzes, raffles, sporting events, etc.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. In recognition of their service to the Nation we aim to provide financial, practical and emotional support when it’s needed most. To do this we need volunteers who can represent SSAFA on the base, ensure that everyone knows about SSAFA services and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role involves being out and about at events and would suit someone looking to give the occasional day, half day or evening to support SSAFA; when and where would be flexible to suit you.

What can you gain from this volunteering role?

• Use your skills, knowledge and life experience to benefit others
• Give tangible and practical support to your local committee by raising funds used directly to support clients
• Support and friendship from your local SSAFA committee and the wider SSAFA community
• Experience, training and skills that you can highlight on your CV and in job interviews
• Better physical and mental health – studies show that volunteers live longer and experience lower levels of stress and depression!

What training and support is there?

• Fundraising workshops
• Online training modules on safeguarding and GDPR, so you are up to date on how to keep beneficiaries, their families safe and personal information safe
• Access to a range of e-learning courses, fundraising guidance and marketing materials
• Local Fundraising Coordinator
• Fundraising Manager (per region)
• Support from the Fundraising and Marketing teams based at SSAFA Central Office
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses

What sort of people do we need?

• Friendly and approachable people
• Confident people who feel happy to engage with the public, potential clients, volunteers and SSAFA colleagues face-to-face
• Reliable attitude, keeping in touch the Fundraising Coordinator about your availability
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and keep information safely
• Access to public transport or a car to get to events
