A winning day charity race day for SSAFA at Chepstow

SSAFA Race Day at Chepstow 2017

7 December 2017

A winning charity race day for SSAFA at Chepstow

On 22nd November, SSAFA held its second full race day at Chepstow to great success.  With 132 people and 12 businesses attending, the Coral Suite of Chepstow race course resounded with the cheers and jubilation as the first race of the day got underway.

Everyone who attended was greeted with a glass of bubbly and treated to an insight to the day’s racing by the resident tipster.  As a special gesture, the tipster went on to auction the opportunity to ‘own a race horse for the day’ and join the commentary team to see the race with the professionals. Each of the 7 races of the day was sponsored by one of the businesses attending.  As part of the sponsorship they were able to join the winning owners for a glass of champagne in the private winner’s room as well as having a table for 10 and advertising opportunities on the course and in the race media.  Sponsors included the Spectra Group, Qioptiq, Cohort, Clarion Events, Fujitsu, and Battlespace Publications.

We were also joined by key members of the motoring world who displayed a series of beautiful cars at the course entrance.  Thruxton Motorsport centre, Deranged custom vehicles and our old friends Rally for Heroes were there to help out and raise funds during the day. We were supported by 10 fantastic volunteer soldiers from the Royal Welsh regiment who were on hand to collect at the gates, raising over £750 as people left after a day’s racing.

Towards the end of the day the whole racing party took part in raffles and an auction where prizes like flight lessons, original art and driving a Ferrari around a race circuit were all snapped up.  With sponsorship, collections, raffles and the auction we are proud to say that over £10,000 was raised.

Congratulations must also go to Simon Davies, CEO of The Spectra Group, who won the Battlespace businessman of the year award.  Great thanks go to Julian Nettlefold, from Battlespace Publications who planned and co-ordinated the entire day in aid of SSAFA.
