Support for homeless veterans

Life after the Forces can be challenging. At SSAFA, we know that a significant number of veterans find themselves on the streets. We have developed specialist services to support them.

For some, service life can put a strain on relationships, leading to separatation or divorce. A lack of experience in dealing with everyday finances can quickly get people into trouble, too. Mental health problems, including PTSD, can lead to addiction and unemployment, increasing the risk of homelessness.

Getting veterans back on their feet

Our team provide food, clothing and shelter for veterans who find themselves homeless. We then look to see what other support we can provide to get someone off the street.

Importantly, our network of volunteers outside London and our wider welfare services mean that SSAFA is there for veterans as they rebuild their lives. For someone moving into a new home or kicking an addiction, our support and funding is an essential part of their journey.

Helping London's homeless veterans

To get ex-service rough sleepers back on their feet, SSAFA's London Homeless Division works with the charity Veterans Aid to provide immediate and vital relief to veterans in crisis.

Our support for Veterans Aid includes funding for a social worker who is embedded at a London drop-in centre. This means that there is someone with real expertise about working with veterans at the centre who provides day-to-day practical advice and guidance.
